West Ballenas Acquired
Working with the BC Parks Foundation, several Elders Council members provided volunteer services to help in the acquisition of West Ballenas Island as a critical component to the Ballenas Winchelsea protected area proposal.
Ian Atherton, Bill Henwood, Ted Lea and Mel Turner organized appraisals, assessments and applications to ensure the property was acquired. The BC parks Foundation, as with the Princess Louisa acquisition in 2019, led the fundraising effort, raising sone $1,800,000 to secure the legacy.
